Creating Your First Project

Creating your first project in PrjNx sets the foundation for how your team will plan, track, and deliver work. A well-structured project makes everything else—tasks, milestones, collaboration, and reporting—much easier down the line.

This guide walks you through creating a project in a way that reflects real project management practices, not just tool usage.

When Should You Create Your First Project?

You should create your first project as soon as:

  • You’ve signed up and accessed your workspace
  • You have a real piece of work to manage
  • You want to explore PrjNx using actual data, not placeholders

PM Insight:
Avoid creating “test” or “demo” projects. Real projects reveal how your team actually works.

Step-by-Step: Creating a Project in PrjNx

Step 1: Navigate to Projects

From your workspace dashboard, go to the Projects section and choose the option to create a new project.

This opens a blank project space that you’ll shape based on your delivery needs.

Step 2: Define the Project Name and Purpose

Give your project a clear and descriptive name.

Good examples:

  • Website Redesign – Q2
  • Mobile App Release v1.0
  • Internal Process Improvement

PM Tip:
A project name should make sense to someone joining the workspace later without explanation.

Step 3: Set Project Dates (If Known)

If your project has a defined start or end date, set them during creation.

Dates help:

  • Anchor milestones
  • Improve progress tracking
  • Support reporting later

If dates are still uncertain, you can skip this step and update them later.

Step 4: Add a Short Project Description

Use the description to capture:

  • The goal of the project
  • What success looks like
  • Any important context for the team

This helps align everyone before tasks are even created.

Step 5: Create the Project

Once the basic details are filled in, create the project.

You’ll be taken directly into the project workspace, where you can start adding tasks and milestones.

What to Do Immediately After Project Creation

Once the project exists, resist the urge to configure everything at once.

Recommended next actions:

  1. Add a few key tasks
  1. Define one milestone (if applicable)
  1. Invite the core delivery team

This keeps the setup lightweight and usable.
